I wrote "
Ode to a Buggy Whip" in a workshop given by
Paulann Petersen.
She challenged us to imagine details about an object no longer used and to write a poem about it. I chose a buggy whip because it's such a cliché, but the poem developed into a story ... from the buggy whip's point of view.
The poem appears in the Fall 2016 issue of
Kalyna Review -- a celebration of language and translation.
Kalyna Review publishes creative work that explores how language creates the personal universe we each inhabit, including poems "which creatively use language to reinvent the world."
