"T"
"T" appears in the LGBTQ-themed Summer 2016 issue of Soul-Lit: a journal of spiritual poetry

"T" was written in response to the shameful treatment of those who are transgender by media, police, politicians and even, sometimes, other members of the LGBT community.

Especially as the more privileged among those who identify as LGB enjoy progress, it's important that we don't ignore the often horrific attacks on transgender people.
Ode to a Buggy Whip
I wrote "Ode to a Buggy Whip" in a workshop given by Paulann Petersen.

She challenged us to imagine details about an object no longer used and to write a poem about it. I chose a buggy whip because it's such a cliché, but the poem developed into a story ... from the buggy whip's point of view.

The poem appears in the Fall 2016 issue of Kalyna Review -- a celebration of language and translation. Kalyna Review publishes creative work that explores how language creates the personal universe we each inhabit, including poems "which creatively use language to reinvent the world."
